Empty-Soul Quarantine

caged heart.jpg

My elephantine heart cannot beat
Inside these iron wires.

Light and air pass through my dismantled skin-
I am beautiful,
I am but cold bone,
I am the destruction of human conception.
My body is wire fencing for the soulless.

I would allow you to look into my heart,
But I am not sure my mannequin existence
Retained life’s most precious gift.
Jealous of warm, beating bodies that pass
My unseemly coffin. Their eyes are glazed,
unknowing of the delicacy
Of their own being.

I fear this quarantine is too much for the hopeless.

I would cry for them,
But then again,
I am but a shadow.
